Dark Summer (The Witchling Series #1)

Available Now!!
A school for Witchlings...
The ultimate choice between Light and Dark...
Where the price of a your soul.
Sixteen-year-old Summer doesn’t expect her new boarding school to be any different than the rest: a temporary stay, until her uncontrollable magic gets her thrown out again. In her mind, there’s no point in getting too friendly with anyone. That is, until she notices Decker, the boy who will become the Master of Night and Fire on his eighteenth birthday.
When she learns that this special school has attracted others with magic in their blood, she is hopeful that this time around, things may be different. Besides, she can’t deny her interest in Decker, and when he rescues her one night from the dark forests of the Rocky Mountains, their connection is instant.
Yet a relationship with Decker may prove to be Summer’s downfall, forcing her to choose between Light and Dark, life and death, love – and their souls.
One choice. One soul. One price.

My Review of Dark Summer by Lizzy Ford:
What a ride! This tale of light and dark witchlings was amazing! It follows Summer, an orphan who has been shipped all over the place because bad things happen around her that she can’t control. Now shipped to a witchling school, could it be the place for her to finally call home? And what of the dark broody boy named Decker, who enchants her heart in every way?

I loved the characters! They feel individually unique, act authentic and take you along with them as they go from day to day at the school. The twins Decker and Beck are opposites as brothers can get, but I found myself rooting for them both as they battle Dark and Light forces. Summer was definitely one of my favorite characters, she’s had a tough life yet seems very naïve and gentle. I kept hoping the inevitable bad luck would not find her again and finally leave her be. But that was the intrigue of the story, it definitely kept you on your toes.

If you want a paranormal fantasy with something different, this is it. Packed full of magic, twists, romance and characters you’ll love to love and hate, it’s definitely on my best of 2013 reads.
5 out of 5 stars!!!

Summer Night (The Witchling Series #1.5)

One choice. One soul. One price.

Summer’s choice threatens to destroy not only her own life, but Decker’s, too, on the night she falls into the Dark. With both Summer and Decker trapped by their choices, it’s up to Decker’s twin to find a way to make things right.

Beck, the new Master of Light, is forced to step up in his role as the protector of Light. He discovers that sometimes, the protector must come between the Dark and its own Master in order to save them both from being consumed. To save his brother, he must risk everything – even his soul – on the slim chance Summer can redeem herself, if given a second chance. If he’s right, he’ll save Decker from a lifetime of agony.

If he’s wrong, he’ll lose much more than Decker and Summer, for there will be no one standing between Darkness and the rest of the world.

My Review of Summer Night by Lizzy Ford:
This is actually now included in the newest version of Dark Summer, but if you read the older version, you won’t see this in it. It was a snippet of mostly Beck’s point of view during the end events of Dark Summer. It was gripping to say the least, and I was very much glued to these pages as I read them in the novel. You get to see another side of Raina, Beck’s and Decker’s mother. I admire how her character becomes such a key person in everyone’s lives, more than they could ever know. Very emotional and a vital piece of the story.
5 star novella

Autumn Storm (The Witchling Series #2)

Re-Releases April 5th 2013
A girl with no memory, hidden in plain sight. A boy with no hope, freefalling into Darkness.

Autumn doesn’t know why she remembers a boarding school she’s never visited, or why her reflection isn’t always … hers. There’s another girl in the mirror, a dark-haired ghost that emerges one night to guide her to a cliff near the school. Only Autumn can’t remember what happened there and why it’s so important. Beck’s gentle touch soothes her distress while Decker’s every look sets her body on fire. Caught between the twins, she struggles to understand her instincts and magick while working through the pain caused by a mysterious car accident that left her disabled, barely able to walk.

Unable to recover from Summer’s death, Decker slowly surrenders to the Dark. He can’t live with the pain, and those around him keep Autumn’s secret too well. The guilt he feels when he falls for her – and betrays Summer’s memory – drives him farther from the Light, until he loses control and begins taking the souls of Light witchlings. As the protector of Light, Beck must choose between confronting his twin and watching more witchlings suffer. Decker realizes Beck has come between more than him and the witchlings. With neither of them willing to let Autumn go, they turn on each other.

Only one of them knows the truth. Only one of them will walk away, unless Autumn can find a way to save them both.

My Review of Autumn Storm by Lizzy Ford
If book 1 sucked me in and made my heart wrench with emotion, this one got it almost in heart attack mode. It continues off book one Dark Summer, right after the events in it. We follow Autumn, now a new student at the witchling school that Summer also attended. But, she’s healing from a horrific accident and appears to be the opposite of everything Summer was. Starting anew, she learns about light and dark magic, being a witchling, and finding (maybe) a way to save Decker from the all-consuming darkness that wants to destroy everything he loves and the world around him. Can she save him from it? Or will this finally be the end of it all?

Man this installment had me on edge the entire time. I am totally addicted to this series. It’s that consuming. It made me want to see what happened next, had me at tears and had my heart jumping at the horrors that happen to many of the students. I read this in one day, that’s how invested I got into these characters. Definitely a paranormal series I will completely drop everything to read. Can’t wait for the next one!
5 out of 5 stars!!!

Autumn Dawn (The Witchling Series #2.5)

Three months after turning Dark and being granted a second trial, Summer has succeeded in winning back not only her soul, but saving that of the Master of Dark as well. She leaves the hospital with some doubts as to whether or not she and Decker can be together, given all they’ve been through and how Dark his deeds were. Summer must choose whether or not she can risk her heart by taking a second chance to love the tormented Decker, whose only peace in the world is found in her arms.

Meanwhile, the fate of the Master of Light becomes more challenging. If finding a way to undo all the Dark that was done by his brother wasn’t enough, he’s compelled to a girl who shouldn’t draw his interest, but who he can’t get out of his mind.

My Review of Autumn Dawn by Lizzy Ford

If you felt like me at the end of Autumn Storm, book 2 of the Witchling series, you will love this novella. It tells you everything that happens after book 2 and it’s oh so satisfying but also wets your appetite for book 3, which I’m also anxious to read now. What an addicting series, I read both books and the two novellas in two days and I have to say, the story telling is gripping and sucks you right in. I couldn’t put them down!

Autumn, now back to her former self must reacclimatize to being Summer again. Will everyone adjust to it? Will she? Her biggest concern is Beck, who really had a time in book 2. I’m glad to see Summer back and dwelling in her head now that things are quite in disarray made for an awesome novella. I can’t wait to read the next book!

J. A. Huss likes to write new adult books that make you think and keep you guessing. Her favorite genre to read is space opera, but since practically no one reads those books, she writes new adult science fiction, paranormal romance, contemporary romance, urban fantasy, and books about Junco (who refuses to be saddled with a label).
She has an undergraduate degree in horses, (yes, really–thank you, Colorado State University) and a master’s degree in forensic toxicology from the University of Florida. “Open the door, Stanis,” Shade hissed. “We’re through here.”

“Just a minute, princess. I have bone to pick with you.” He tapped the wall and moved so fast, only a blur appeared where he had stood. He was in the kitchen now and pulled out a small, blue glass bowl. Bringing it to her, he held it out toward Shade, pushing her to take it. When she did, he resumed his position on the creaky chair, motioning her to sit back on the couch. “Please, sit.”

“I’d rather stand.”

He groaned, rolling his head on his shoulders, his long brown hair spilled over the back of the chair as he did that. He looked like a drunk slumped in the chair, almost falling off the edge.

“Suite yourself, changeling. But I highly suggest you sit. There are more ways than one to use magic, even bound up as you are.” His wild eyes seemed more sober now and she felt a sudden urge to sit as told. The suspicion she felt that he was using magic on her was eating at her nerves. She hated being played, and he seemed a master at that.

“What do you mean, more ways?” She settled between Soap and Dylan and held the bowl out. It was small enough to fit in her palm.

“This is a Pith. It extracts your essence, therefore, your powers are given a release through this bowl. Even in your case, one’s powers cannot be completely contained, as one can never truly trap a mind. This Pith provides another route, another path for your magic to escape your body and work its powers. We’re only trapped by the binds we allow to be placed upon ourselves. This breaks through that. It will let you use your water magic, as if you’d never been bound.”

The others gasped, staring in wonderment at the ordinary blue glass bowl sitting in her palm. It seemed utterly mundane, no etchings on its hard surface, nothing to condone its powerful use. She wondered if he was pulling her leg or not. But it was worth a try.

“One drop into the bowl, Shade. That’s all it takes.” He gestured quickly, to make her move faster. She gulped, mesmerized by the glass. She silently prayed that it would work, if not, they were doomed. No, she was doomed.
