Release day Feature & Review: Are You Listening? by Michelle Grey

Are You Listening?
A Personal Journal of an Ovarian Cancer Survivor
by
Michelle Grey
Review & Feature
Blurb:
Cancer snuck up on me when I least expected it. But I imagine everyone probably feels that way. When I got my diagnosis, I was relatively young and otherwise healthy. I was a busy mom, wife, employee and aspiring author. Priorities shifted, and so did my perspective.

Throughout my experience, I sought to become educated and I learned many things – some tangible, some intangible, but all of which I’ll share with you in this quick story. My hope is to further educate and encourage every woman, even if cancer never touches you or anyone you love.

All Proceeds go to a local OC support group near Michelle.

My Review:
This was definitely a very interesting novella about the author’s experience with ovarian cancer and is quite different from what I usually read. It’s told in memoir style, like you’re reading her journal as she goes from suspicion of something wrong going on with her body, to the dreadful diagnoses, to a very hopeful ending. It left me in awe of how strong she can be and thankful that she decided to put her experience in writing so that others may find the courage to listen to their body telling them something is wrong and not let the common answer or diagnoses of something else some well-meaning but wrong doctors can give to blanket the symptoms they feel. I can see this helping so many woman into earlier detection of ovarian cancer and hopefully, a better survival rate.

An emotional journey that takes you into the terror, love and ultimate hope of one person who hopes to change the world, one early diagnoses at a time. A wonderful insightful read.
5/5 STARS

Book World Resolutions for Alexia Purdy

I know i'm a bit late for putting some resolutions up. Bite me.

Okay, So I decided to blog more in 2014, it’s one of my Book World resolutions, it’s the #1 resolution so please bare with me as I ramble incoherently on. Well, it’s time to be more open about me, the publishing world, books, my writings, my crazy thoughts and any random crap. Anything really. I’ll try to focus on book stuff, hence the title of this post and the name of this new series I’m dedicated to get going. So here goes…and I apologize for my fragmented jibberish. I have no sense of order in this brain of mine.

(These are book world related only, my life resolutions are not on here. Please beg me to post them, then maybe I might do it.)

#1. Blog More (see above)

#2. Read more. I plan to read 150 books in 2014. Gulp!

#3. Write 4-6 or more novels and get them published. Check out my list of projects tab HERE

#4. Read more traditionally published novels. (Indies don’t hate me yet! Read on…)

I read my goal of 100 books in 2013, and I’d say 95% of them were self-published Indie stories. Not saying I won’t be reading more, but it feels as though I’m limiting my expanse of the universe by reading only Indie books. It’s kind of like only reading classical novels and no cyberpunk sci-fi (which is awesome!), or only eating non green foods, or working out to just doing sit ups (not happening). Yeah, I need to expand my reading experience a little bit more in 2014. Don’t fret! I’ll still read a ton of Indie books, my goal is 150 books read this year! (Oy Vey!)

#5. Return library books on time. Yes, I fund my local library quite generously with overdue fees. I should have a plaque dedicated to me on the wall or a tree planted out front for what I end up paying them. Eek!

#6. Learn more technology to better my business. HTML and Javascript...Excel?…I hear you calling me….(run!)

#7. Hire other people to do what I can do myself. It’s called buying happiness and free time. I need this badly!!! Why not pay for others to format, do covers and all that bratty business stuff that gives me a stiff headache. Yeah. Worth it!

#8. Hire a babysitter for more than one day a week. (See #7)

#9. Buy an ergonomic keyboard, desk, chair, monitor etc…etc….My wrists and back are begging me for this.

#10. Travel to more Book Conventions and see the world! So looking forward to Indie Girl Con, UtopYA and (hopefully) Indie Book Fest this year! Woot Woot!

#11. Sorry I had 10, but I misnumbered. Oh well right? And finally, discover the meaning of life…my life to be more specific. Yes, it evades me…HA!

Until the next time...

The Almost Girl

The Almost Girl
Seventeen-year-old Riven is as tough as they come. Coming from a world ravaged by a devastating android war, she has to be. There’s no room for softness, no room for emotion, no room for mistakes. A Legion General, she is the right hand of the young Prince of Neospes, a parallel universe to Earth. In Neospes, she has everything: rank, responsibility and respect. But when Prince Cale sends her away to find his long-lost brother, Caden, who has been spirited back to modern day Earth, Riven finds herself in uncharted territory.

Thrown out of her comfort zone but with the mindset of a soldier, Riven has to learn how to be a girl in a realm that is the opposite of what she knows. Riven isn’t prepared for the beauty of a world that is unlike her own in so many ways. Nor is she prepared to feel something more than indifference for the very target she seeks. Caden is nothing like Cale, but he makes something in her come alive, igniting a spark deep down that goes against every cell in her body. For the first time in her life, Riven isn’t sure about her purpose, about her calling. Torn between duty and desire, she must decide whether Caden is simply a target or whether he is something more.

Faced with hideous reanimated Vector soldiers from her own world with agendas of their own, as well as an unexpected reunion with a sister who despises her, it is a race against time to bring Caden back to Neospes. But things aren’t always as they seem, and Riven will have to search for truth. Family betrayals and royal coups are only the tip of the iceberg. Will Riven be able to find the strength to defy her very nature? Or will she become the monstrous soldier she was designed to be?

Gail Mencini

Biography

Gail Mencini makes her literary debut with To Tuscany with Love, an adult coming-of-age novel. She was born and raised in rural Nebraska, where everyone knew their neighbors and summers were spent outdoors--working, playing, or watching fireflies. Her love for reading books and imagining characters and their stories germinated during those days of creating her own world. Gail's parents, who visited every continent except Antarctica, sparked her love of travel and adventure, which burns brighter than ever.

Gail was raised to be independent. College and grad school brought her training in tax law, and for many years she used that knowledge in her CPA practice to help clients across the country. In 1990 Gail's life took a radical shift when she became a wife and also "instant mother" to three active sons, with a fourth son born a few years later.
One hot July summer in Key West, Gail and her husband toured Ernest Hemingway's house. Smacked in the face with the master writer's ghost and palpable presence, she confessed her secret desire to write books. Unlike her, Gail's husband felt only the heat and humidity and not a trace of Ernest. Her confession led to her writing a novel that won contests and landed a New York literary agent, but otherwise never saw the light of day. After years of writing, improving her craft, and working harder, the kernel of an idea and several trips to Italy inspired Gail to write To Tuscany with Love, the first book in her Tuscany series. The years following her childhood of imagining far-away places and the people there have only intensified her love for creating stories. Gail is thankful every day and knows she is abundantly blessed to be a wife, mother, and writer.

To Tuscany With Love

To Tuscany With Love
Can one college semester abroad change the course of your life?

Bella Rossini, a vivacious college junior, lands in jail overnight with acquaintances whom she mistakes for friends. Shipped off to Tuscany by her mother, Bella is suddenly thrust into living with seven strangers during one life-altering summer.

Meet Hope, the sturdy and practical girl, steadfast in her loyalty to her boyfriend; Meghan and Karen, identical twins with an eye for fashion and beauty to match; Stillman, haunted by his hard past, and Phillip, an athlete, both fueled by competition; Lee, by family mandate in pre-med; and Rune, the Hollywood-bound wild child. All add sizzling chemistry and rebellious humor to the mix.
In one whirlwind summer, while uncovering the charms of Italy, they discover both friendship and
love.

After their summer together, life – and loss – happens.

Returning to Tuscany 30 years later, their dreams, anger, secrets and disappointments create an
emotional kaleidoscope. Their reunion sends them on a startling collision course that none of them
could have predicted.

Set against the allure of Tuscany, with an irresistible fusion of heartbreak and humor, this debut novel, “To Tuscany with Love,” explores the fear of letting the past determine the future and the power of friendship.

Elijah (The Miel Chronicles) is now available!

Suprise!
Are you surprised?
Heck, I'm surprised.
Elijah (The Miel Chronicles) was a fun story to work on with my dear friend- Author J.T. Lewis. And guess what? It's part of the Reign of Blood series! You heard right! Since I am absolutely in a mind struggle with 'Amplified', book 3 of that series at the moment and it didn't come out when it should've, I thought my readers deserved a taste of the Reign of Blood world even though I'm in a full on battle with that darn manuscript. Not only is this story part of this world, but full of something more....heavenly creatures! You got it, there are ANGELS in this story and it's a definitely unique twist on Vampires and Angels. What a pairing.

So, without further ado, here's the link to this awesome short story and I hope you are as anxious to read it as I was having fun writing it. Thank you to all my readers for you endless support and Happy New Year!

Elijah (The Miel Chronicles)
A Reign of Blood Companion Story
by:
J.T. Lewis & Alexia Purdy
NOW AVAILABLE HERE
Blurb:
A Reign of Blood Series Companion Story

These are the journeys of Miel, the Keeper of the journal.

The workings of heaven are shrouded in mystery and myth, leaving us to only theorize as to what awaits us when we pass.

There are those among us however, that are special cases.

These are good people that have committed a horrendous crime, such as murder.

What makes their cases special however, is the fact that by committing these egregious acts, one could argue that they have made the world a better place.

A heavenly court of Archangels is forced to consider these special cases, holding in their collective hands the fate of the souls that come before them, but only one among them, Rashnu, recognizes that these souls cannot be judged on just the outward details.

Miel, the lowly angel assisting him is tasked with traveling the world to gather the real facts, facts that will hopefully lead to their salvation.

The Miel Chronicles is a collaborative effort created by J.T. Lewis to work with other authors on a special project. Elijah, coauthored with Alexia Purdy is the second of these stories and can be read on their own.
